Makeup for mature skin
Primer & Poise
Primer & Poise is MadGrey LLC's makeup site, written for skin over 50 and for a question most beauty coverage never asks: can the person buying this actually get it onto their face? Its own summary of the job is the short version — makeup that works on skin over 50, including makeup that is genuinely easy to apply.

What the site covers
The site is organised by the product that is causing the problem rather than by brand or by trend. Seven sections carry it — foundation, primer, concealer, eyes and brows, easy application, makeup by age band from the forties to the eighties, and guides — alongside brand reviews read against mature skin specifically. The pages underneath start from the complaint rather than the category: foundation that settles into wrinkles, concealer that creases under the eyes, primer that pills, mascara that smudges under glasses, eyeliner on hooded lids, brows that have gone sparse. Running through all of it is the strand nothing else in the category covers — makeup for arthritic hands, for tremors, for low vision, for one-handed application, and the packaging that makes any of those possible or impossible.
Picks are ranked on eight published criteria in a stated order of weight: formula and finish suitability, documented behaviour on texture, the ingredient profile read from the manufacturer's own published list, shade range breadth including depth and undertone, ease of application and packaging, availability, price as a qualitative band, and the reported experience of people with mature skin, with sources listed on the page. The fifth of those is the site's own addition — every product carries a "how it handles" line covering whether the cap twists, whether the pump needs a pinch, and whether it works with one hand — and every pick carries a stated drawback. The site is equally direct about its limits: no laboratory, no clinical or instrumental testing and no tester panel; no cosmetology, esthetics or medical credential, and no medical advice, with conditions referred to a doctor; no claim to have personally used a product it has not used; no prices, because they live at the retailer and change constantly; and no star ratings, review counts or testimonials.
That is the same arrangement MadGrey LLC runs on every site it operates. Primer & Poise is free to read and funded by affiliate commission as a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program — if a reader buys through a link the retailer may pay a percentage, at no extra cost to them — and because every link goes to the same retailer the commission is identical whether a reader buys the product ranked first or the one ranked last. Several pages conclude that the answer is to use less of what you already own or to buy nothing at all, and those pages earn nothing. The disclosure sits on the site itself rather than buried in a footer, every page carries a last-updated date that moves only when the page is genuinely reviewed, and the basis for a recommendation is always stated, because a reader can only weigh a pick if they know what it rests on.
Coverage
- Foundation — what stays out of fine lines on dry, oily, sensitive or rosacea-prone mature skin, plus serum, stick and tinted-moisturiser formats and deep and rich tones
- Primer — blurring, hydrating, mattifying, tinted and SPF primers for large pores and fine lines, and silicone against water-based
- Concealer — creasing, crepey under-eyes, age spots, dark circles, colour correctors and setting powder
- Eyes and brows — mascara for thinning or sensitive lashes and for glasses wearers, eyeliner and eyeshadow for hooded lids, brow pencils, gels and powders for sparse brows
- Easy application — makeup for arthritic hands, tremors, limited dexterity, low vision and one-handed application, plus easy-grip brushes, easy-open packaging and mirrors
- Makeup by age band from over 40 to over 80, brand reviews read against mature skin, and guides to application, shade matching, ingredients and building a routine
A reader gets eight ranking criteria stated before the products, a "how it handles" line on every pick covering caps, pumps and one-handed use, and a stated drawback attached to each one.
How this site is funded
Primer & Poise earns affiliate commissions on some links to retailers. Those commissions never influence which products are recommended or how they are ranked. The full affiliate disclosure sets out how it works across every site MadGrey LLC operates.
