Towing & trailer hitches
Hitch & Sway
Hitch & Sway is MadGrey LLC's towing site, written for the driver pulling a trailer behind a vehicle that was not built for it. Its own ordering principle is printed on the homepage — problem first, product second — so a page opens with the fault and the fix and only then with hardware.

What the site covers
The site is organised around the things that actually go wrong behind a tow vehicle. Six hubs carry it: sway control, weight distribution, hitches, brake controllers, wiring and mirrors, and towing capacity. Under those sit the symptom pages a driver reaches for mid-problem — why a trailer sways, why it sways when empty, fishtailing causes and fixes, a truck that sags when towing, a trailer that bounces, trailer lights or trailer brakes that have stopped working — alongside the reference material those answers depend on: hitch classes explained, receiver and ball size charts, 4-pin against 7-pin connectors and a 7-pin wiring diagram, payload against towing capacity, and how to measure tongue weight. Three calculators handle the arithmetic: tongue weight, payload headroom, and whether a weight distribution hitch is needed at all.
Picks are made against four published questions rather than a score. Does the mechanism address the reader's actual problem; does the manufacturer publish what it claims; what is the design's genuine weakness, written out as a "skip it if" line; and is the product still sold in the form described, with superseded models flagged. Every specification is traced to the manufacturer's own page with the link sitting next to the figure, regulatory claims link to the regulation itself, and where a manufacturer publishes no number at a stable address the page says so instead of estimating — forums, Reddit threads, AI summaries and other affiliate sites are not treated as sources. The site is equally direct about its limits: it has no test rig and no instrumented stopping-distance data and says so on every page that recommends a product, it claims no certification or professional background, it publishes no star rating or numeric score, and it prints no prices at all because the current one lives at the retailer.
That is the same arrangement MadGrey LLC runs on every site it operates. Hitch & Sway is free to read and funded by affiliate commission as a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program — if a reader buys through a link the retailer may pay a percentage, at no extra cost to them — and that commission never changes what is recommended, the order things are ranked in, or whether the site recommends against something. The disclosure sits on the site itself rather than buried in a footer, and the basis for a recommendation is always stated, because a reader can only weigh a pick if they know what it rests on.
Coverage
- Sway control — why a trailer sways loaded or empty, fishtailing causes and fixes, and friction against dual-cam against four-point systems
- Weight distribution — how the hitch transfers load, whether one is needed, and the trucks that sag or trailers that bounce without it
- Hitches — classes explained, receiver and ball sizes, ball mounts and the charts behind them
- Brake controllers — proportional against time-delay, gain adjustment, and trailer brakes that have stopped working
- Wiring, mirrors and towing capacity — 4-pin against 7-pin connectors, wiring harnesses, towing mirrors, payload against tow rating, and how to measure tongue weight
- Calculators for tongue weight, payload headroom and the weight distribution decision
A reader gets the towing fault named and the fix explained before any hardware appears, with every specification linked to the manufacturer's own page and each pick carrying the case it is wrong for.
How this site is funded
Hitch & Sway earns affiliate commissions on some links to retailers. Those commissions never influence which products are recommended or how they are ranked. The full affiliate disclosure sets out how it works across every site MadGrey LLC operates.
